Beginner’s Guide to Apple Pay

Although Apple Pay is not something that requires bill payments, it can be used at a number of locations to pay for goods and services as well as within many popular smartphone and tablet apps. Created by Apple, the application is designed to allow buying products without having to carry along various credit cards or other forms of payment.

Devices that are Compatible with the Apple Pay Payment Option

Since Apple Pay is proprietary software, the only products that have access to the Apple Pay payment system are those that feature iOS or other Apple-based operating systems. That being the case, the current selection of compatible devices are not very many. This is especially true considering that only the newest products  from Apple can use the app. At this time, only five products are capable of using Apple Pay, and these are the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3 and the Apple Watch, which is slated for release early in 2015.

However, there are some limitations on where these products can actually use Apple Pay. The iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 version of Apple Pay can only be used to make purchases within certain apps, which will be discussed below.  On the other hand, the Apple Pay for the Apple Watch can only be used for in-person purchases. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Apple Pay can be used for both purposes.

Stores and Apps That Currently Accept Apple Pay as a Payment Method

This is not a full list of companies that will accept Apple Pay as a way to make a payment on a purchase. The complete list can be found at apple.com/apple-pay.

At this time, there are not many locations or online shops that have the necessary technology set up to accept payments made via Apple Pay.

However, the ones that you can use the payment method at are fairly popular retailers, restaurants and online shopping destinations. Physical locations include Apple Stores, Babies R Us, Chevron, Disney Stores, Bloomingdales, Foot Locker, McDonald’s, Nike, Subway, Sephora and Whole Foods among others.
